Cafés, shops & pop-ups shipping container conversion built in Napier, Hawke's Bay

Servery + retail fit-outs quoted per build — typically from the low $20,000s + container.

Container cafés, shops & pop-up retail

A shopfront that arrives on a truck: gas-strut servery hatch, counter, shelving, lighting and certified power, all built into shipping-grade steel. Container cafes, coffee bars and pop-up shops open for a fraction of a commercial fit-out — and when you move or grow, the shop moves with you.

Why hospitality keeps choosing containers

A container cafe skips the two costs that sink new hospitality ventures: a long commercial lease and a six-figure fit-out. Your fit-out is an asset you own outright, it can trade from a carpark, event site, vineyard gate or beachfront, and if the location doesn't perform, you relocate instead of walking away from a lease.

What we build in

Servery hatches with gas-strut or awning-style openings, serving counters and back benches, shelving and storage, poly-lined and insulated interiors for food-safe comfort, certified electrical with plenty of circuits for espresso machines and fridges, plus custom paint and signwriting in your brand.

Shops, kiosks, bars and info sites too

The same build logic works for retail pop-ups, market kiosks, event bars, ticket booths and site information offices. Anything that needs a counter, weather-tight security at night, and the ability to relocate is a candidate — bring the idea and we'll spec it.

Cafés, shops & pop-ups — common questions

How much does a container cafe cost in NZ? +

As a guide, a servery-hatch cafe/bar fit-out with counter, lining and certified power typically starts in the low $20,000s on top of the container — far below a bricks-and-mortar fit-out. Every build is quoted individually; call 06 835 3010 with your concept.

What consents does a container cafe need? +

Food registration (Food Act) applies to any food business, and where you trade determines the rest — private land, council leases and events each have their own rules. The container build itself, including certified electrical, is straightforward; we supply the compliance paperwork your registrations need.

Can you fit out for an espresso machine and fridges? +

Yes — that's the usual spec. We wire dedicated circuits for high-draw equipment with certified electrical work, and add water/waste plumbing rough-ins where your design needs them.

Can the shop be moved between locations? +

That's the superpower — it's still a shipping container, so any Hiab truck relocates it. Weekend markets, seasonal sites, or a permanent pitch that changes yearly are all workable.
