40ft shipping containers for sale, Hawke's Bay
Twelve metres of secure, dry steel. The 40ft container suits farms, orchards, contractors and anyone who's outgrown a garage — and the 40ft high cube is the base we use for tiny homes and big workshop conversions. Stock lands regularly at our Napier yard and can be shipped anywhere in New Zealand.
Twice the container, not twice the price
A used 40ft high cube from $5,500+GST gives you ~76 cubic metres of dry storage — the most container you can buy per dollar at the top end. For orchards and farms across the Heretaunga Plains and Central Hawke's Bay storing machinery, bins and spray gear, it's the obvious pick.
The tiny home and big-workshop base
A 40ft high cube gives you a genuine 28m² of floor at full standing height — that's a one-bedroom tiny home with a bathroom and kitchen, or a workshop with room for a vehicle and benches. Our engineer builds these fit-outs in the yard; see our tiny homes and garages pages for real examples.
Placement needs planning — we help with that
A 40ft arrives on a long truck and needs a clear, reasonably level run to its final position. We've placed hundreds around the region, so before you order we'll talk through access, ground prep and orientation — and if 40ft genuinely won't work on your site, we'll say so and suggest twin 20s instead.
40ft shipping containers — common questions
How much does a 40ft container cost in NZ? +
Used 40ft high cubes start from $5,500+GST, standard-height B grade used units from $6,200+GST, and new builds from $7,800+GST ($9,100+GST for a new high cube). Transport quoted separately — call 06 835 3010 for what's on the ground.
What access do I need for 40ft delivery? +
A truck of about 19m overall needs to reach the site, with clear overhead room for the Hiab. Tight rural gates and steep driveways are often still workable — send us photos or a pin and we'll assess it free of charge.
Is a 40ft high cube worth it for a tiny home? +
In our experience, yes — the extra 30cm of ceiling height transforms how the space feels, and it allows proper insulation thickness in the roof without eating headroom. Nearly all of our tiny home builds start from a 40ft high cube.
Can you join two 40ft containers? +
Yes — two 40fts end-to-end make a full-length vehicle bay ('big rig garage'), and side-by-side joins create a 4.7m-wide space. These are engineered cuts and welds done by our qualified engineer, not DIY jobs.
